Just a few things you do and don’t want to do, the first time you go camping in a tent. Following these tips can increase your enjoyment, and make your first trip out into the woods a memorable one… In a good way!

1. Don’t travel too far away the first time you go camping
2. Don’t camp at a primitive site, your first time out
3. Do pitch your tent (once) at home before you’re in the woods
4. Do arrive at your campsite in daylight
5. Do get familiar with your new “home” as soon as you arrive
6. Don’t take your first camping trip during (late) fall or winter
7. If you live in the PNW don’t make the beach your first trip
