How many times have you gone on a 3-5 day camping trip, where it seems like every other day you have to run out and buy ice for your cooler? That’s happened to me so many times, when it finally occurred to me that I should make my own ice blocks. This not only saves a little money, but it also avoids that extra trip of having to leave your campsite to make a run to the store for ice. And let’s face it, once you’re at your campsite, the last thing you want to do is get in your car and make an ice run.
In preparation for this 7-day camping trip, I make my own cooler ice by freezing 4 large ice blocks. By day 5, I did have to go to the camp store and buy a bag of ice, but these ice blocks definitely did the trick in terms of lasting for the most of the trip, and of course, keeping the food cold.
